Happy 100th Birthday BSA
Scripps-Mesa Twilight Camp

July 19 - July 23, 2010: 3:30 - 7:30 PM
Breen Park in Mira Mesa
(On Polaris Dr, just south of Capricorn Way) Map

This year's program will again include rank specific skills and belt loops as we have done in past years.  Minor changes are made yearly to keep the program fresh for boys who have attended in the past.  This year's theme "Happy 100th Birthday BSA" provides us with the opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of scouting.

Please send all Registration and Health forms plus payment to the council office for processing.  This will give everyone equal opportunity in the registration process.  You can smooth the first day of camp sign-in process by ensuring that all information is complete.

As usual we always need volunteers, please help us if you can so we do not have turn any boy away.

Siblings Welcome!

This year we offer a siblings program for children of staff too young to attend the camp.

Siblings will have their own program which includes; color their own T-shirt, sports, games, playground time, story time, dinner (provided by you) and snack time (provided by us).

If you would like to take advantage of this special offering, email the Camp Director and mail the BSA Health and Medical Record form to the Camp Director.

  Who can camp?

To attend Camp, a boy must have completed the first grade and be a registered Cub Scout, Webelos Scout or Tiger Cub Graduate. Boys must be registered in a Cub Scout Pack.

Cost - How much does it cost to go to camp?

$75/week - covers all fees and expenses for all 5 days of camp. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt and patch.

Camp fee assistance is available in the form of reduced fees. Please see the Campership application form for qualification information.

How do I register for Camp? Registration closes on July 14th. Applications received after July 14th will be returned with their un-cashed checks.

Camp is open to all boys, regardless of race, creed, color, or national origin. No boy will be denied the opportunity to attend camp because of a physical or mental disability, as long as his doctor has given him permission to attend. Your Camp/Program Director must know about any special requirements before camp starts, so that the staff can be prepared to provide the best possible experience.

The Camp/Program Director reserves the right to require an adult chaperone (provided by the boy's family) for boys who, in the Director's opinion, require a chaperone for the health and safety of the boy and/or participants in the camp.

Camp fees are transferable but not refundable. Requests to transfer fees must be made by email to the Camp Director.

Youth asked to leave camp for discipline reasons will not receive a refund.

How will I know if I can attend Twilight Camp?

Once your Registration form, Health and Medial form and payment are received, a confirmation email will be sent to you. This email will confirm the date and time of the camp you are attending. It will also include the name and phone number of your Camp Director and Program Director.

If the camp has already filled, your forms and payment will be returned to you. If you do not receive correspondence within two weeks of sending your registration, please contact Camp Director

Will my Cub Scout work on his rank?

Our camp program are based on a boy's Cub Scout Rank. Many of the activities qualify toward rank advancement or belt loops. The camp program focuses on age appropriate activities, so it is very important that we know what grade he will be entering in the fall of 2009. While at Camp, boys who are:

Entering 2nd grade will work on Wolf

Entering 3rd grade will work on Bear

Entering 4th grade will work on Webelos I

Entering 5th grade will work on Webelos II

Activities such as sports, flag etiquette, nature study, games, first aid, and wrist rockets (optional) are currently being planned. We expect Cub Scouts attending Twilight Camp to earn (or to nearly earn) several belt loops! Tentatively, we are looking at doing the following Academic and Sports programs: Art, Language & Culture, Map and Compass, Music, Wildlife Conservation, Basketball, Marbles, Softball, Volleyball, and Soccer.

Hours of Camp Operation

Monday through Friday Twilight Camp starts at 3:30pm and concludes at 7:30 pm. Scouts may be dropped off as early as 3:15 pm, but should be picked up at 7:30pm sharp!

A responsible adult needs to sign-in and sign-out each Cub with their Den Leader daily. On the registration form, parents may indicate alternate people allowed to sign-out the camper at the end of the session.

If weather is considered to be a hazard (i.e. thunder storms), camp may be cancelled for that day.

Emergency phone number to contact camp while in session: (858) 922-9431

In consideration of the residents of the neighborhood where the camp is held, we ask that you be considerate in your driving and parking practices, and that Cub Scouts do not use the park playground equipment any time before, during, or after camp. Thank you!

STAFF/VOLUNTEERS

How can I as a parent/guardian/grandparent help out?

Camp is staffed entirely by parents and volunteers. We would like YOU to be part of the FUN! When you volunteer to be a chaperone, you will be asked to attend Staff Training. You can volunteer to help out by completing a Staff Registration Form and BSA Health and Medical Record form and sending it to the Camp Director. The Camp Director or Program Director will contact you with details of the camp. Volunteers who help during the entire camp will receive a camp T-Shirt!

We encourage Packs to send one adult chaperone for every four Cub Scouts who attend Camp.

If an adult staff member attends Camp Staff Training, helps out every evening that Camp is held, and pays a registration fee for his/her son, he/she will receive a $15 rebate at the end of camp. This rebate should be applied for after camp, by contacting the Camp Director by email.

Boy Scouts/Venture Scouts!

We need you too! We would like for YOU to be part of the FUN! When you volunteer, you will be asked to attend Staff Training. If you are a registered scout 14 years old you can volunteer to help out by completing a Youth Volunteer Form and BSA Health and Medical Record form and sending it to the Camp Director. The Camp Director or Program Director will contact you with details of the camp. Volunteers who help during the entire camp will receive a camp T-Shirt and gift!
