Wulinaxin
Chapter 2009 Spring
Newsletter
(June 10, 2009)
With
the help of many Wulinaxin
Arrowmen, the Wulinaxin
Chapter once again pulled
off an outstanding Ordeal on
May 8-9, 2009. Inducted into
the brotherhood of cheerful
service were Seventy-Four
Candidates!
Mataguay had a bright,
colorful wave of Red, Gray,
Purple, Royal Blue, Kelly
Green, Orange, Yellow, and
Navy Flags blowing in the
wind. Under the watchful
eyes of Sixteen Elangomats,
and following behind the
Flags, were the eight Clans
of Candidates, wearing their
various colors of
neckerchiefs. What a sight
to behold! The Full Moon
brightened the path to the
exquisite Pre-Ordeal
Ceremony site.

Wulinaxin
Chapter at Tiwahe Lodge 2009
Spring Encampment
(Apr 8, 2009)
The
moment we stepped out of the
car in Santa Ysabel to meet
other Wulinaxin Arrowmen, we
knew it was going to be a
very cold night at camp for
the Tiwahe Lodge Spring
Encampment. We were glad
that we were getting fueled
up with a hardy dinner. It
was a great time getting in
a few laughs before heading
the caravan towards
Mataguay.

What happened to MSR?
(Feb 28, 2009)
It was another adventure to
“HOME” to do a little
Saturday Service Project on
February 28th, 2009 with the
Arrowmen of the Lodge.
Fifteen
of the Wulinaxin Chapter
members gathered early at
the Ramona Café to nourish
their bodies for a day of
irksome tasks. Mr. Sivers
and Mr. Flaherty brought
their chainsaws, with plenty
of gasoline and oil for
refills, and of course,
safety goggles, earplugs and
gloves. Mr. Sivers even had
bright orange leggings and
helmet. He looked like a
professional lumberjack!
And so the caravan made its
way to MSR, full and
energized.
What a
shock to see our camp in
such a deplorable state.
Tree limbs were everywhere,
in every nook and cranny,
and nowhere could one find a
clear space. The wind and
huge storm had done so much
damage. It was a sad sight
to behold. Although it was
a huge task, the Tiwahe
Arrowmen, were there to make
a dent in the massive storm
damage.

Webelos Woods & NOAC
(Dec. 15,2008)
Mataguay was bombarded by
1800 Cub Scouts and their
counter parts on November
7-8-9, 2008. As one
approached the A-Frame four
check-in stations were set
up to welcome the Webelos
Scouts to a weekend fun
beyond their wildest
imagination. Each car,
truck, van, and trailer was
greeted with a big hello, a
black Webelos Woods cap with
red trim, and a somewhat
quick dissertation on how to
get to their camp site, the
dropping off the camping
gear making sure they DO NOT
park, but “dump and go”, and
return back down the hill
into the huge parking lot,
ran by Wulinaxin: Mr. Brian
Faraci, Mr. Glenn Flaherty,
and Hadaazli-To: Joe
Ruekberg. Then the
“Wulinaxin Truck and Van
Shuttle Service” consisting
of Arrowmen: Mr. Jon Sivers
(The one who was over the
whole event!), Mr. Jim Burr,
Mr. Dave Horton, and Mr.
Craig Lorenz would shuttled
them back up to their tent,
which was their new home for
two nights and three days.
If they succeeded in
following these rules and
regulations the rest of the
weekend would be a ‘piece of
cake!’

Fall 2008 Chapter Newsletter
(Oct 5,2008)
The Sixth Annual Catapult
Contest was held at the Mira
Mesa Senior Citizen Center.
Chief Brian McMichael herded
all the Arrowmen outside to
the patio to begin the GAME
of launching marshmallows.
The contestants took to the
starting line grouped into
two categories, small and
large. Chief Brian then
handed out the appropriate
size of marshmallows to be
hurdled into the sky, or
later on, into the open
mouths of hungry youths!
Oh my, what a sight to
behold!
One at a time the Arrowmen
took aim to get their shot
the farthest. Much to
the surprise of those
present the launches were
quite powerful over last
year’s shoot. Those
spectators standing or
sitting too close had to
scurry back so as not to get
hit in the head!

Thanks
to
Mr. Steve Pfeiffer for
organizing the Rock ‘N’ Roll
Marathon Hydro-maniac Water
Station
(Sept 15, 2008) A
huge thank you goes to a
Vigil Member in the Order of
the Arrow, Mr. Steve
Pfeiffer. For the past
three years he has headed up
the greatest fund raiser for
the OA by getting us
involved with the Rock ‘N’
Roll Marathon Hydro-maniac
Water Station. Through
his organizational skills
the Order won First Place in
2006 with the prize of
$2,500, Second Place in 2007
with the prize of $1,500,
and again, First Place in
2008 with the prize of
$2,500 giving us a grand
total of $6,500.
Mr. Pfeiffer has become
known as the Display King of
Lodge. He has come up
with such great idea themes
in ’06 Boy Scouts of America
“ The Wonders of Camping”,
in ‘07 Boy Scouts of America
“Celebration of World
Scouting’s 100th Birthday “,
and my favorite, in ’08 Boy
Scouts of America “Summer
Olympics.”

The Wulinaxin Chapter is
Flying
(Aug 5, 2008)
Look up in the sky!
What a wonderful sight to
behold as kites of all
shapes, sizes and color dash
across the evening sky.
Then, add the color of the
sunset, “WOW!” The
Wulinaxin Chapter held its
August meeting at the Youth
Aquatic Center in Mission
Bay. It was superb
weather with just the right
amount of the Bay wind to
get the Arrowmen’s kites a
flying!
